Enable Push Gmail on your iPhone and Windows Mobile Phone
by Uzair Sajid on September 22, 2009, under Apple, Hacks and Tips, Mobile Apps
Google has finally added support for Email in their Exchange Sync platform for mobiles – though it only works for the iPhone OS and Windows Mobile devices with ActiveSync. Nokia Series60 users shouldn’t be concerned because they already had support for Push Email via Nokia Messaging application, which is faster than Google Sync as far as my experience goes.
How to block photo comment SPAM on Facebook
by Uzair Sajid on September 6, 2009, under Hacks and Tips, Web Apps
Taggable photos have taken Facebook by storm. More often than not, you’d find your name on the face of Master Yoda or Mr. Burns or even on Playboy models (has happened, believe me). And you know what happens next – You start getting lots of comment notification emails from Random people you don’t even know, you end up wasting most of your time checking your notifications, your boss then fires you, your girlfriend leaves you and your thrown out of your home/apartment, Martian plants erupt from Earth’s core and have long elastic vines that climb inside your body from the behind and RIP your lungs out and – Ok maybe I exaggerated a little. Its not that bad, they don’t actually rip out your lungs, they just plant their seeds in them.
Anyways I’m sure most of you wouldn’t want that to happen. And the one easy way to stop it is to kill photo notification emails once and for all. But that would be a little too extreme in my opinion because you don’t always get SPAM. You also get some comments and tags on those old moments shared by your friends when life was much more simple and fun. So here is my tip on how you can eliminate the comment SPAM without compromising the genuine stuff.
Backup the entire Pirate Bay on your Hard Drive
by Uzair Sajid on August 17, 2009, under Hacks and Tips
Yeah you read this right – you can actually backup the entire Pirate Bay on your own hard drive. In fact you can even start you’re own site, powered by the OpenBitTorrent trackers. All you need is a server to host the database and you’re all set.
While I’m totally against all kinds of piracy, this sounded like a rather interesting piece of news, and would make an exciting fun/informational project.
How to block Flash Ads (and movies) in Internet Explorer
by Uzair Sajid on July 28, 2009, under Hacks and Tips, Web Browsers
I ran into a really neat feature in Internet Explorer 8 today which makes lousy Flash Ad supported sites incredibly bearable. That is specially helpful for those who are on low power computers like Netbooks, where loosely programmed Flash ads can really become resource hogs. The trick? Internet Explorer’s built in ActiveX control manager.
How to Optimize your torrent client for maximum download speed
by Uzair Sajid on July 27, 2009, under Hacks and Tips
This is yet another guide in my series of guides to get you the most out of your torrent downloads. I’ve already covered alternative trackers and patching your half open connection limit. These techniques can do wonders for you but you’d still be missing out on some much needed bits if you haven’t optimized your connection settings.
Most of the optimizations rely on the maximum upload limit you have set. I would be using uTorrent as an example for this article, but everything also applies to other clients too including BitTorrent and Azureus.
