There has been a lot of chatter, teasers and even a demo of an iPhone 4 jailbreak and unlock, but there had been no mention of a public release yet. But now finally, the Dev Team has said that the all new ultrasn0w written exclusively for the iPhone 4 is ready and the only thing they are waiting for right now is the release of a public jailbreak.

Here are a couple of tweets from planetbeing’s twitter profile:

We’re gonna be able to give you an unlock with the jailbreak.

It will probably be the usual thing where you jailbreak and then install ultrasn0w from Cydia.

As for the Jailbreak itself, Comex already said that he isn’t waiting for iPhone 4.1 to be released before he would release his new Jailbreak for iPhone 4. So that means a new userspace / userland jailbreak for all devices running iOS 4.0 would probably be here in the next week or two. And when it does, ultrasn0w would be ready to unlock it right out of the gate.

Of course until that time we have no other choice but to wait up - and save the SHSH blobs while at it. Comex said that either one of iOS 4.0 or iOS 4.0.1 would do. I’ll post about the jailbreak as soon as it comes out so make sure you stick around by following me on Twitter or on Facebook.

Oh and if you are on iPhone 3G/3GS or iPod Touch 2G/3G you can jailbreak on iOS 4 right now using sn0wbreeze or redsn0w and unlock via ultrasn0w.

Okay this was just too good to ignore. NMA News made a humor video depicting Apple CEO Steve Jobs as Jedi turning into a Sith Lord after defeating Darth (Bill) Gates and the Empire (Microsoft). With the power of the Dark Side (Reality Distortion Field), he brings his evil wrath upon the technology and consumer world who are oblivious to the fact that their ‘hero’ and ‘savior’ has fallen.

Also included… subtle references to the Gizmodo debacle and Foxconn suicides. But enough wordplay, just watch the video with English subtitles up top.

After teasing us with a lot of images and videos, iH8sn0w just pushed out the final version of sn0wbreeze 1.6 to Jailbreak iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (the old bootrom) and iPod Touch 2G, all running on iOS 4.0. If your device fits the above criteria, then here’s what you need to do to get your very own jailbreak working.

To Jailbreak your device, you’d need iTunes 9.2, the original firmware for your device (IPSW file) and a copy of sn0wbreeze 1.6 (download link at the bottom). Once you have everything set:

Fire up sn0wbreeze 1.6 and hit the next button in the bottom right corner.

Select either Simple or Expert mode to continue. Simple mode just sets the default options for you which include installing Cydia, and sn0wbreeze custom logos. Expert mode lets you fine tune additional settings like whether to enable multitasking and wallpapers on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G which are disabled by default.

On the next screen, hit the browse button and select the original firmware you downloaded for your device.

If the IPSW file passes the verification, click next to continue and select what other options you want to include with your jailbreak. If you have no clue about what you are doing, then just select General and hit next.

The final screen would ask you to select the Expert options for your device. If you are on an iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2G, you’d see the option to enable multitasking, percentage battery and wallpapers. Note that these options do affect the performance of your device.

Hit next and let sn0wbreeeze work its magic. Once it successfully builds the firmware, it would be saved in the same folder as the original.

Now connect your phone to your PC and fire up iTunes. While holding the Shift button, click on Restore button and select the jailbroken firmware from the previous step.

Let iTunes finish the restore and once your device reboots, ensure it has Cydia installed. If it does, you are successfully jailbroken.

If you want to unlock your device as well, then just follow the simple guide here on how to unlock your iPhone using ultrasn0w.

Note that you should only try jailbreaking and unlocking at your own risk and back your device up before attempting. No one else would be responsible if something goes wrong with your device or data.

While there is still no official download available, iH8sn0w just teased a screenshot of the final version of sn0wbreeze 1.6 which would jailbreak iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 2G, and iPod Touch 3G on iOS 4.0.

Apple iOS 4.0 was just released a few hours ago, and the iPhone Dev Team has already released ultrasn0w 0.93 to unlock the iPhone 3G and 3GS running on the iOS 4.0 as well as iPhone OS 3.1.3. The latest version ultrasn0w works on all basebands from 04.26.08 through to 05.13.04.

To unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS, you would need to Jailbreak your device. Complete instructions to Jailbreak your device with redsn0w or sn0wbreeze 1.6 can be found here.

After jailbreaking your device, you need to:

Launch Cydia.

Add the repository from repo666.ultrasn0w.com.

Search for ultrasn0w and install it.

Reboot your device, and it should now work with any carrier.

Note that you should only Jailbreak at your own risk, as no one would be responsible if anything goes south with your device.

This unlock is only intended for iPhone 3G and 3GS. Do not attempt to use this technique to unlock iPhone 4. I would post more details when a jailbreak and unlock for iPhone 4 becomes available.

Apple just pushed out the final build of iOS 4.0 (previously iPhone OS 4.0) for the iPhone and iPod Touch lineup.

But the biggest news of all is that for the first time, iPod Touch owners would get the major OS update for Free. So if you are an iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 2G, or iPod Touch 3G owner, just fire up iTunes 9.2 and hook up your device for the update.

As for the owners of the first generation iPhone and iPod Touch, Apple didn’t officially release the iOS 4.0 for your devices, though there are still ways you can get it working for you, if you know where to look. The iPad owners also don’t get an update yet. Expect the iOS 4.0 update for iPad around September when Apple also refreshes the iPod lineup.

iOS 4.0 brings about a 100 new features to the table including the much awaited multitasking support, springboard wallpapers and folders. You also get a better email experience thanks to a unified inbox as well as the iBooks app and store with PDF support. Of course not all features are available for all devices but you can enable them via jailbreaking like multitasking for iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3G which has been demoed before.

<del datetime="2010-06-22T14:55:35+00:00">Oh and if you are running a Jailbroken device with an unlock then you better hold off from upgrading until the new versions of the jailbreak tools become available.</del>

Update

You can now Jailbreak your iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G with redsn0w as well as unlock your iPhone with ultrasn0w.

Update 2

You can follow our step by step guide to Jailbreak your iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Touch 2G using sn0wbreeze 1.6.

My friend Taimur over at RedmondPie just shared a nice video walkthrough of the newly announced iPhone 4 running the iOS 4.0 (previously known as iPhone OS 4.0). The video demonstrates all the major features of the new iPhone including FaceTime, Multitasking and iMovie.

The seven minute long video – which is in HD by the way – demonstrates all the features in detail including real multitasking and just App Switching which we have been seeing before. Pandora was used to demonstrate the background audio since the app was pre-loaded on the device. We didn’t get a glimpse of background VoIP functionality because Skype wasn’t installed on the iPhone 4.

Bing was present and was looking good (better than Google Search actually) as well as iMovie – which we didn’t get to see in detail but it was enough to blow all other video editor implementations out of the water.

Noticeably missing from the demo was the new integrated 3-axis gyroscope – but that’s probably because no Apps support it just yet though I wont be surprised if we start to see some great looking apps, specially games starting to roll out by next month.

The fourth generation iPhone 4 is set to be released on June 24 though you can start pre-odering yours from June 15. The iPhone 4 16GB would cost $199 and the iPhone 4 32GB would cost $299 on contract while the price for the iPhone 3GS 8GB has been slashed to $99. The iPhone 4 would be launched in five countries simultaneously (which includes US, UK, France, Germany and Japan) with further roll out in the coming months.

Hit up the source link below to watch another video by iLounge comparing the original iPhone, iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4.

While this isn’t the final build of the iOS 4.0 (previously known as the iPhone OS 4.0), the video does show that the two year old iPod Touch can still do multitasking even though Apple isn’t officially supporting it for the device.

Of course the video doesn’t demonstrate any real multitasking going on other than App Switching so we can’t comment on the performance of the iPod Touch 2G when it is tasked by some real multitasking workload. In a most likely scenario, you wouldn’t be able to do much with that 128MB RAM. But hey if you got along this far without multitasking then being able to run at least a couple of apps in parallel isn’t bad at all. Now you have a reason to hold of from buying an iPod Touch 3G right now until Apple unveil’s the iPod Touch 4 this September.

Here is the video demoing the multitasking experience on the iPod Touch 2G.

If you want to try the iOS 4.0 Gold Master yourself then you can find it online, free of cost. Of course the Jailbreaking tools for the iPod Touch 2G aren’t out yet but rest assured that it has been jailbroken.

The final version of the iOS 4.0 would released on June 21 for iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3GS, though not all the features of the new operating system would be supported for the iPods. Of course this is where the jailbreaking comes in and this video still gives hope that users of the older iPod Touch would still be able enjoy the full featured iOS 4.0.

How to Jailbreak using sn0wbreeze

As Gizmodo puts it, Apple has officially re-revealed the next generation iPhone – dubbed the iPhone 4 at the launching keynote of WWDC 10. While we had seen it a lot of times before thanks to all the leaked pictures over then internet, its good to finally see the device officially and know about its features. And speaking of which, according to Steve Jobs, there are over 100 new features in iPhone 4, the biggest of which he demoed on stage.

Of course, some features were truly innovative, while some ideas were borrowed from the industry and polished to perfection. Here is my breakdown of what I think is most exciting about the iPhone 4.

The Name

The first thing that struck me about the iPhone 4 is the name. Its nothing fancy or complicated or something which has tons of different brands in it (like HTC Google Nexus One or HTC Sprint EVO 4G). Its simple yet descriptive and clearly gives the idea that we are talking about the fourth generation device.

The Design

A lot of people might be unhappy with Apple for dropping the curves and tapered back but I totally agree with them. The old design was – well old to say the least. It had been around for too long now and it was time for a change. The new design stands at a stunning 9.3 mm making it the slimmest smartphone out in the market right now.

The Engineering

While it may be an aspect of the overall design, the innovative engineering of the iPhone 4 does deserve credit. The best part – the stainless steel band which also dubs as the antennae for Wi-Fi and 3G radios. As for the front and back, they are made of highly durable and scratch resistant glass which according to Apple is “same as the glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic”.

The Display

Dubbed Retina Display, the new 960 x 640 pixel display is simple stunning. The pixel density is actually higher than the human eye can resolve. Some might argue that it is an overkill for the 3.5″ display but I think it would be perfect. Its also an IPS panel with a good contrast ratio of 800:1, and before you even wonder, lag doesn’t matter on a mobile device so no problems there as well.

The A4 Chip

After the iPad, the Apple designed A4 chip also finds its way on the iPhone. If the chip is similarly spec’d, then expect a superior experience to any other device in the market right now until 1.5 GHz Snapdragon or its dual-core variant rolls out.

Surprisingly, there is no word on the about the RAM here, but I’m guessing its 256MB, same as the iPhone 3GS. Though it would help if its actually more (like 512MB) since iOS 4.0 can now Multitask as well, which brings me to…

The Multitasking

Okay its not true multitasking like on the desktop or other mobile operating systems like Symbian or WebOS, but it is definitely more efficient than those two, and in many ways is a lot similar to what you can do in Windows Phone OS 7 (speaking of which, Microsoft should also be simplifying the name).

The Camera

The bump to a mere 5 mega pixels might not sound much, but Apple says it believes in the whole packaged experience when it talks about photos and videos. This include editing the content on the device, which would now include iMovie. To top that off, the iPhone 4 would also record videos in 720p HD at 30 frames per second, along with an LED flash.

The secondary camera on front can be used to make video calls of Wi-Fi, something they are calling FaceTime. Apple may sound like they have invented something totally new here, but video calls have been around on other phones since the early in the past decade.

The Gyro

The last feature I would like to highlight is the Gyro, which joins the sensory arsenal of the iPhone, which includes the accelerometer, digital compass, A-GPS , Proximity, and ambient light sensor. The three axis gyroscope brings a whole new degree of motion sensing experience to the iPhone. Think of it like a Wiimote with Wii MotionPlus attached, only that it also has a multitouch display.

That’s about all my favorite picks from the new iPhone. Of course it doesn’t mean that’s the only thing new there. You have a lot of new features in iOS 4.0 as well, along with new apps like iBooks with PDF support, a unified inbox with threading, and an overall improved battery life thanks to a larger battery.

iPhone 4 is available in two models with two colors each. The 16 GB model would run for $199 while the 32 GB model would cost $299 on contract from AT&T. The iPhone 3GS 8GB is now selling for $99. The iPhone 4 would be available June 24, but you can pre order yours starting June 15.
